Position Overview
MasterCard Advisors is at the forefront of shaping the future of data insights, harnessing billions of anonymized, aggregated transactions in a 10 petabyte data warehouse. Our goal is to assist financial institutions, merchants, media, and governments in effectively managing their operations. The Advanced Analytics team is dedicated to centralizing and optimizing the analytical, modeling, software coding, data sourcing, product development, product management, econometrics, and associated delivery capabilities of the MasterCard Advisors organization.
Utilize extensive experience in the Banking, Retail, Travel, Technology, Digital, media, and/or payments industry, along with profound knowledge of applying big data quantitative analytics. Provide hands-on support for information product development and customized analytical project delivery to meet the needs of a global client base.
The Mastercard Economics Institute, established in 2020, aims to lead macroeconomic thought and support Mastercard's initiatives to build a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy. The institute analyzes macroeconomic trends through the consumer lens, delivering tailored and actionable insights on economic issues for key customers, partners, and policymakers.
Role
We seek a full-stack back-end data engineer with a minimum of 5 to 6 years of experience to join Mastercard's Economics Institute. Reporting to the team lead for quantitative economics and MEI data management, you will:
- Play a crucial role in shaping the economics institute engineering discipline, contributing to the overall success and value of the team's products, reports, and outputs.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in big Data Architecture & technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive, HBase, Python & R.
- Possess a solid understanding of data processing and storage concepts.
- Design scalable and efficient data architectures.
- Manage continuous integration/continuous deployment of automated pipelines.
- Design and deploy client-side and server-side architecture.
- Pay attention to design, detail, and user experience.
- Nice to have's: familiarity with low-level languages, CI/CD pipelines, advanced R, and Quarto languages (R, Python, Julia, Observable.js).

- Design data models that define the structure, relationships, and constraints of data entities.
- Define data integration, determining how data from various sources and systems will be integrated and transformed to ensure consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a data strategy aligned with business goals and needs.
- Establish data governance policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
- Design data systems capable of scaling to handle growing volumes of data while maintaining performance.
- Manage metadata (data about data) to provide context and understanding of data sources, definitions, and lineage.
- Excel at managing multiple projects and tight timelines.
- Proven record of creativity, innovation, and unorthodox thinking.
- Comfortable working with engineers, product owners, data scientists, and economists.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and fluid environment, remaining calm under pressure.
