Team Overview:

The Analytics team plays a central role at Chegg, utilizing data and analyses to support various business lines, marketing, and product organizations. Comprising analysts, data scientists, economists, mathematicians, statisticians, and engineers, our team collaborates within the broader Chegg data organization, aiming to enable data-driven insights at scale. Leveraging cutting-edge instrumentation, analysis, and data science technologies, we transform data into actionable insights, aligning closely with stakeholders to ensure our analyses directly contribute to decision-making and enhance Chegg's value proposition. In essence, we are a diverse group dedicated to leveraging data to fulfill Chegg's Student First mission.

Role: Data Scientist

We seek a highly motivated and self-starting Data Scientist to contribute to understanding and predicting business performance, as well as supporting the scoping, launch, and measurement of the impact of product initiatives. This individual should possess exceptional skills in data mining, analytics, visualization, and communication, coupled with the ability to work in an on/offshore model. The ideal candidate pays meticulous attention to detail, excels in creating and maintaining ETL workflows feeding key dashboards, and can derive actionable insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across different time zones to ensure efficient communication and coordination for project deliverables.
  • Analyze complex datasets using advanced tools and techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights driving strategic decision-making.
  • Conduct in-depth research to understand market dynamics, competitive landscapes, customer behavior, and industry trends.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process optimization, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends to enhance analytical capabilities and contribute to innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define key performance metrics, track progress, and present insights for business growth.
  • Take ownership of projects, ensuring timely and quality delivery while managing competing priorities and deadlines efficiently.
  • Work with Business Intelligence and Data Engineering teams to align data solutions with Analytics requirements.
  • Build and automate dashboards and data visualizations to communicate insights effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed analytical models to support business cases.
  • Partner directly with business and product analysts to understand insights and analytics needs.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in data visualization, analysis, systems analysis, and extracting meaningful insights into business performance.
  • Experience in on/offshore development models and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced product company.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and proactive, with excellent communication skills.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality analytics and communicating recommendations effectively.
  • Drive to learn and master new data-access, manipulation, and transformation platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical thinking, critical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong business acumen to analyze complex situations, market trends, and customer behavior.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across diverse cultures and time zones.
  • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.

Analytical Toolset:

Required:

  • Advanced SQL and data manipulation skills, comfortable compiling data across multiple sources.
  • Hands-on experience with Python programming and Databricks platform (preferred).
  • Advanced Excel knowledge.
  • Proficiency in using data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with databases such as Redshift, Postgres, Oracle, Teradata, MySQL, etc., working with large datasets.
  • Familiarity with web analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Amplitude) is a plus.
  • Experience in a data lakehouse environment and cloud environments (AWS, GCP) is a plus.
