Profile Overview:
The Data Scientist 1 at Bread Financial will work under the guidance of senior team members to deliver advanced business insights using data science techniques. The role is designed for recent graduates with a strong foundation in data science and machine learning, focusing on supporting the enterprise’s data science needs. As part of this team, the Data Scientist 1 will engage in everything from data extraction and pre-processing to building and validating predictive models.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree
- Field of Study: Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
- Work Experience: Less than 1 year or fresher
- Specialization: Must have completed a course in Data Science and Machine Learning
Required Skills
- Data Science: Ability to generate actionable insights through data analysis and machine learning
- Machine Learning: Experience with algorithms for supervised and unsupervised learning
- SQL: Proficiency in using SQL for data extraction and manipulation
- Python: Strong ability to work with Python for data science projects

Key Responsibilities
Data Analytics: Under supervision, perform data extraction, integrity checks, and data pre-processing for analytical purposes. You will also engage in exploratory data analysis to generate insights and select modeling approaches tailored to specific business challenges.
- Conduct data mining using unsupervised learning techniques like clustering and factor analysis.
- Engage in feature engineering to create predictive model inputs.
- Apply supervised learning techniques like regression, decision trees, random forests, neural networks, etc.
- Ensure proper model validation, diagnosis, and correction of issues (e.g., overfitting).
- Measure the impact of model integration into production strategies and present results to management.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with team members and management to translate analytical insights into actionable recommendations.
- Present results clearly and concisely to internal and external stakeholders.
- Build foundational knowledge in various domains, including credit card operations, banking, and financial regulations, through teamwork and collaboration.
- Engage with fellow data scientists to share best practices and foster data science innovation within the company.
Innovation and Research: Stay informed about emerging trends in data science and machine learning. You will be encouraged to research and test new tools, algorithms, and platforms to enhance model performance and efficiency.
- Provide feedback on the effectiveness of new tools and approaches during testing phases.
Model Risk Management: Understand common model risks and regulatory requirements.
- Apply proper controls during model development to minimize risks.
- Develop comprehensive documentation for model governance, archiving data, scripts, and results.
- Work with model risk management partners to complete model validation and remediation processes as required.
